Removers & General Insurance

Our reputation has been built to what it is today partly as a result of how careful we are with our clients' possessions. Our insurance record is remarkably good and this enables us to be offered extremely good rates. Unfortunately as with any industry, accidents can happen. For this reason you are recommended to take advantage of the insurance that we offer. Our quotation will show the cost of insurance for your effects arranged on your behalf and is subject to your declaration of a value of the furniture and effects to be relocated and your signed & completed acceptance form being received. Additional fees will apply for values over £250,000.


We have a pleasing record when it comes to looking after your possessions but in the unlikely event a claim has to be made it will be dealt with efficiently and professionally. We give our clients peace of mind by organising cover through Lloyd's. Our brokers are Basil Fry & Co, the UK's leading brokers to the removal industry and members of the British Association of Removers Professional Advisors Panel.

Late Key Waiver

This waiver is currently charged at £48 and is designed to save you money should we be unable to gain access to your new property by 2pm on the completion day. There may be a delay in the vendor moving out of the property or in the transfer of money within the removal chain. Such events can prove costly. We decided to offer an insurance against these costs for your peace of mind. Waiting time is between 14:00 - 17:00. This would normally be charged at £96 per hour. Our crews will be on site to complete the removal until their allotted working hours under the Working Time Directive have expired.

Please note: if the removal cannot be completed within the allocated day, a delayed access charge will be applied to complete the removal at a mutually agreed date and time.

Postponement Protection Waiver

In the event that unforeseen circumstances force you to have to postpone your removal after it has been confirmed, making you liable for fees under our Terms & Conditions, we offer a postponement waiver for your peace of mind. This allows you complete flexibility and ensures that you would not incur any additional charges if your removal plans change at the last minute. This insurance is designed to save you money and give you peace of mind if the unexpected happens during the lead up to your move. This waiver will protect you for postponement only and up to 48 hours prior to the commencement of your removal. This waiver is currently charged at £96 per removal day.

British Association of Removers (BAR)

Gentle Giants Ltd is a full member of The British Association of Removers (BAR). The association was founded in 1900 and has over 500 members, representing the best British removal, storage and shipping companies. It is dedicated to promoting excellence in the removal industry for the benefit of its members and customers. BAR is the voice of the professional moving industry. The BAR code of practice, which has been approved by The Trading Standards Institute (TSI) provides a range of protections for anyone using a BAR company.

The code of practice includes:

  • High standards of risk management and staff training
  • A customer prepayment protection plan in the event that the BAR member cancels or experiences financial difficulties.
  • A customer protection scheme under which if a customer has a complaint about a BAR member, the code of practice requires the moving company to try to resolve it fairly, quickly and efficiently. If this is not possible, the customer may refer it to the low cost independent Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provided by the Association.

Cooling-off Period

As a consumer, you have certain rights to cancel this contract with us if the agreement between us has been finalised in a particular way. If we have agreed the contract for removals away from our own premises (for example, at your house) or over the telephone or by email (without having been to your house first), you have the right to cancel the contract within 14 days. This is known as a cooling-off period. However, if you want to schedule the removals date within the 14-day period, you would need to forego this cooling-off period. If the above exception is applicable to this removal, we will highlight this to you, and ask you to tick the box on the ‘acceptance of quotation’ form to confirm your request to have the removal carried out within the 14-day period.
